Man Down
..
In the above link, is the Friday text, from Haaretz, of this Wednesday story (partially reprinted below):
Israelis evacuated from Amman hotel hours before bombings
A number of Israelis staying on Wednesday at the Radisson hotel were evacuated before the bombing by Jordanian security forces, apparently due to a specific security alert. They were escorted back to Israel by security personnel.
Below, excerpts from the current, corrected story, which has undergone a few minor revisions:
No truth to report of Israeli evacuations before Amman bombs
There is no truth to reports that Israelis staying at the Radisson SAS hotel in Amman on Wednesday were evacuated by Jordanian security forces before the bombing that took place there.
The Israelis were escorted back to Israel by Jordanian security personnel only after the attacks had taken place, contrary to earlier reports.
There are a lot of ways to look at this, well more than that unfortunatley. So, we'll start simply. The corrected story makes no mention that Haaretz ran the story. Haaretz created the "earlier reports." The one which they are now saying, there is no truth to.
One can theorize why they ran it in the first place. At first glance, one would want to run such a story, if true. To get all the facts out. And later question following events/lack of prevention by those so charged. But, given the supersonic manner in which it was withdrawn/invalidated/corrected. And with the tiny mid stream mention (Thursday's version?) of lack of verified source/s. One wonders, seriously wonders why they ran it in the first place?
Given the gravitas. The scale. The magnitute. Are we dealing with amateurs who missed the potential? Who simply did not understand. Understand the scope of their responsibility with such a story? I'm loath to imply something sinnister, regarding Haaretz's obviously now even more proud liberal bent. As being a thread in the fabric.
All I can see ... all I can say is. Man Down.
