RAMALLAH, West Bank (AFP) - Palestinian security forces foiled 48 attempted attacks against Israeli targets last month, prime minister Ahmed Qorei said as US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was due in the region on a new peace push.

Mohammed Dahlan participated in Sunday night's negotiations .... Dahlan complained that since the Israeli withdrawal, "Gaza has became an even bigger prison."

Lyons, France’s second largest city, witnessed heavy fighting between “youth” and police yesterday afternoon. It was the first rioting in a city center since the French riots began more than two weeks ago. It was also the first rioting in broad daylight.

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) - Some 1,100 Iraqi lawyers have withdrawn from Saddam Hussein's defense team, citing insufficient protection following the slayings of two peers representing co-defendants of the ousted Iraqi leader.
